The Paintings
Environmentalism and spirituality are themes that run through much of my work, especially my most recent sets like "Vibrations of the Earth" and "Endangered". I feel very strongly that art and music, along with practices such as meditation, are tools which can inspire us to reconnect with the deeper parts of ourselves and the Universe and remind us that we are inexorably connected to the natural world and that by taking care of it we also take care of ourselves.
The patterns in the "Patterns of the Earth" set of paintings have all been vibrated from natural sounds including the bio electrical sound of mushrooms, the haunting "hum" the Earth makes as recorded by NASA, thunderstorms, whale song etc. The people and animals are interweaved with these strange and beautiful fractal patterns symbolising the interconnectedness of all life on Earth. The patterns in "Music for the Eyes" have been created from the vibration of my original musical compositions.
The Portraits
Portrait painting has always been one of my great passions ever since i was a young child. I enjoy painting the people in my life who are special to me, combining a high degree of realism and technical skill with lots of feeling and love, capturing not just the likeness of the person but also something of their personality and soul. I've been painting my son Alex since he was a day old.
I've also undertaken many portrait commissions over the years.
The Biography
Jason is a visionary figurative artist and musician. After being made redundant from his job as a copywriter in advertising at the age of 26 a powerful dream one night inspired him to rekindle his first love which was art and so he enrolled at Sir John Cass art college in Whitechapel.
Since then he's worked as a freelance artist undertaking many portrait and mural commissions as well as having numerous joint and solo exhibitions both in London and abroad. For the last 13 years Jason has had a studio at the beautiful and historic Valentines Mansion in Valentines park, Ilford where paints, creates his music and teaches regular art classes and workshops.
Jason often likes experimenting with interesting mediums including cooking spices, earth, compost and sand (see the earth animals under the Endangered section). He is also a professional musician and composer creating music and songs with his partner and muse Davida. He uses musical and vibration patterns as a way of combining these two creative practices, creating powerful and beautiful work which fuses the figurative with the abstract with the conceptual.
